New “Energy Outlook 2016” with Danish technical assistance shows the way to a cleaner energy production in Indonesia
The bilateral country cooperation between Indonesia and Denmark achieved another milestone as DEA and the Danish Embassy in Jakarta, assisted the Indonesian "National Energy Council" (NEC) with their future energy modeling and launched the “Energy Outlook 2016” today.
The Indonesian "Energy Outlook" provides several suggestions for Indonesia to reach its ambitious energy targets and at the same time install large amounts of RE - thereby reducing Indonesia’s CO2 emissions.
DEA has since January 2016 been working together with Indonesia in a government to government cooperation, where Danish lessons learned have been shared within energy planning, integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Indonesia has a very ambitious goal to reduce its CO2 emissions by 29% by 2030 (41% with international support) while expanding energy production by more than 100 % due to growing energy demand. A target that requires a significant transition in the current energy system based on mainly coal to an energy system with a high penetration of renewable energy (RE). Denmark has one of the highest shares of renewable energy in the electricity system and the Danish experience with renewable energy is therefore in strong demand.
The picture shows a large group of stakeholders including the National Energy Council (NEC), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), the National Electricity Company (PLN), Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), several universities, the Danish Embassy, the Danish Energy Agency and EA Energy Analysis among others. EA Energy Analyses has during the last six months introduced the Indonesian model team to the power system planning tool: "Balmorel"
