The Case for Energy Efficient Buildings in Asia

LCTU expert makes the case at a regional dialogue meeting in Manila

Danish expertise on energy efficiency is in demand, also in South-East Asia.  In late October, the Philippine government hosted a 3-day dialogue meeting on projects and ideas for greenhouse gas reductions through energy efficiency, waste management and renewable energy.  Here, LCTU expert Jesper Ditlefsen gave the presentation on energy efficiency in buildings, which has a huge potential not only for cost-savings and greenhouse gas reductions but also as a means of coping with the rapidly increasing demand for electricity. Many Asian countries experience costly and disruptive black-outs because generation and distribution of electricity cannot keep up with demand.

The dialogue meeting saw government delegations from Pakistan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia and donor countries, which have committed themselves to assist and co-finance such projects. The meeting was facilitated by the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP), a US-based NGO, which has been in charge of 8 such dialogue meetings in Asia and Latin America. The governments of Great Britain, Germany and Denmark have been sponsoring the meetings.
