Danish consumption of natural gas fell by 16.2% in 2011

27. February 2012

Production of natural gas fell by 14.0%

Danish consumption of natural gas was 4.0 bn. Nm3 in 2011, compared with 4.7 bn. Nm3 in 2010. This corresponds to a decrease of 16.2%. The fall is especially due to the significantly milder weather in 2011 than in 2010. In addition there was a reduction in consumption of natural gas by the large-scale CHP plants of 0.26 bn. Nm3 because of a reduction in electricity production in 2011. For the same reason consumption of natural gas by low-scale CHP plants also fell.

In 2011, Danish natural gas production fell by 14.0% to 6.7 bn. Nm3.

Exports of natural gas fell by 11.6%, primarily due to a significant drop in exports to Sweden. As in 2010, in 2011 Denmark imported natural gas from Germany.
