Energy management system, energy audit and climate audit in certain enterprises

Companies with an annual energy consumption of over 10 TJ are subject to rules on energy management, energy audits, and climate audits. The rules come into effect on July 1, 2024, and replace the previous rules on mandatory energy audits in large companies.

Energy management system and energy audits

The EU's Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) from 2023 requires companies with an annual energy consumption of over 10 TJ to implement energy management or conduct an energy audit every four years.

Climate audit

Companies subject to the requirements for energy management and energy audits must also conduct a climate audit, according to the Agreement on Green Tax Reform for Industry, etc., of 2022.

In Denmark, the obligation will be implemented with Executive Order No. 761 of June 18, 2024, on mandatory energy management systems, energy audits, and climate audits in certain companies.

Below you can read more, and in the guidance (only available in Danish), you can find detailed requirements.
