China’s energy transition – and how Danish experiences can contribute

China’s goal of peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality before 2060 requires long-term energy planning, increased energy system flexibility, energy efficiency as well as clean and renewable heating. Danish experts work directly with counterparts in various Chinese government organisations to build capacity and to produce outputs that can feed into Chinese policy-making processes.

The annual China Energy Transformation Outlook (CETO) is one key deliverable of the cooperation. This jointly produced report sets out a feasible path for transition to a low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system, providing a blueprint for China’s energy system to meet the country’s 2060 emissions target.

In the field of district heating, the Danish Energy Agency and our partners work with pilot cities in Chinese provinces, providing training to local officials to improve heat planning and sharing Danish expertise to facilitate the integration of heating into the overall energy system.

As part of its work with China, the Danish Energy Agency produces a monthly China Energy Policy Newsletter.
