The Finnish Presidency for the Nordic Council of Ministers invites the press to the Award Ceremony of the Nordic Energy Municipality 2011.

Who will become ‘Nordic Energy Municipality 2011’? The Finnish Presidency for the Nordic Council of Ministers invites the press to the Award Ceremony of the Nordic Energy Municipality 2011.

The event will take place on 31 October 2011, 11.30-14.30, at the Danish Architecture Centre (DAC), Strandgade 27B, 1401, Copenhagen K, Denmark. The Finnish Prime Minister, Jyrki Katainen, will announce the winner.  

About the initiative - Nordic Energy Municipality 2011
All the Nordic municipalities were invited to participate in the Nordic Energy Municipality competition and 44 municipalities forwarded an application describing one cutting-edge energy project.  14 municipalities from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, were nominated to become the Nordic Energy Municipality 2011.  

The Nordic Energy Municipality 2011 initiative supports and promotes sustainable green growth and energy-related climate efforts in the Nordic countries. Particularly, the initiative aims at highlighting and acknowledging the municipalities carrying out pioneering energy projects.

The Nordic prime ministers’ Globalisation Forum will take place on the same day at Eigtveds Pakhus in Copenhagen and it will be chaired by the Finnish prime minister. Here the overall theme of the prime ministers’ discussion is Green Growth.

The Nordic Energy Municipality award ceremony will be a practical introduction to the Nordic prime ministers’ Globalisation Forum.

The award ceremony 2011
On 31 October 2011, the award ceremony for the Nordic Energy Municipality 2011 will take place at the Danish Architecture Centre, Copenhagen, Denmark. The Danish Architecture Centre has been advisor to the Jury of the Nordic Energy Municipality 2011. Present at the award ceremony will be representatives from the nominated municipalities, officials from the energy administrations, the Nordic Council of Ministers Secretariat and national and Nordic Jury members.

The award goes to…
All 14 nominated energy projects demonstrate how the municipalities, in a sustainable manner, are contributing to green growth and climate-friendly solutions.  The purpose of the competition is to increase awareness about sustainable energy solutions among municipal actors, and to create a platform for cooperation among Nordic municipalities in these fields.

Post-award activity / Branding the Nordic region
The Nordic Energy Municipality Award 2011 is a window for replicable energy solutions in the Nordic region. Municipalities and cities around the world can learn from the innovative initiatives being undertaken in the Nordic countries. An important ambition of the Nordic Energy Municipality project is to help branding the Nordic region as a frontrunner for green growth and sustainable energy solutions.
