Contracts in the first Solar PV tender in Denmark signed

2. January 2017

The contracts were concluded on the 27th of december at the Danish Energy Agency as a result of the first Danish tender of aid for electricity generated at solar PV installations.

The Danish Energy Agency's pilot tender of aid for electricity generated at solar PV installations has resulted in a historically low aid price of 12.89 Danish øre per kWh to be given as a fixed premium on top of the market price for 20 years. It is the cheapest price ever achieved in Denmark for aid for electricity generated at solar PV installations. The tender demonstrates that electricity from solar PV installations in Denmark is now competitive with the cheapest sources of renewable energy.

The three companies who won the tender are P&B Solpark Danmark 8 K/S, P&B Solpark Danmark 9 K/S and P&B Solpark Danmark 11 K/S, who each submitted tenders regarding three installations of 2.4 MW. Behind the winning companies stand Pure & Better Energy that is a joint venture company established between the development company Pure Energy Development and the investment company Better Energy.

The solar PV installations are to be established within two years.

Background

  • The Danish pilot tender of 20 MW regarding aid for electricity generated at solar PV installations constitute the temporary PSO-solution for the years 2015 and 2016
  • In July 2016 Denmark and Germany concluded a cooperation agreement on the mutual opening of pilot solar PV tenders. The Danish pilot solar PV tender – that was partly open to installations located in Germany – constitutes the Danish part of this agreement, while the German Bundesnetzagentur has conducted a German tender of 50 MW of which the full capacity was opened to installations located in Denmark
  • As a consequence of the cooperation agreement solar PV projects in Germany were eligible to participate in the open part of the Danish pilot tender in competition with solar PV projects in Denmark while solar PV projects in Denmark were eligible to participate in the German pilot tender, in competition with solar PV projects in Germany
  • Danish solar PV projects won the full capacity of the German open pilot tender of in total 50 MW and also the full capacity of the Danish pilot tender of in total 20 MW.
