The exploration well Nena-1 in the North Sea did not discover oil

Press Release:

DONG E&P A/S has as operator of license 1/12 drilled the exploration well Nena-1 (5605/14-1) in the western part of the Danish North Sea. The well did not discover oil or gas.

Nena-1 was drilled as a deviated well and terminated in chalk of Danian age at a depth of 1808 meters vertically below sea level. The expected sandstone layers of Paleocene age were not present. The well is now being permanently plugged and abandoned.

Nena-1 was spudded on 24 January 2014 with the jack up rig Mærsk Resolve at the location 56° 35’ 59.534” N, 05° 18’ 30.543” E (UTM Zone 31, 6 275 370.7m N, 641 729.0 m E), where the water depth is 59 meters. See map.
