Mexico: Promoting Energy Management Systems in Mexican Industry

International experiences presented and discussed during a one day workshop about efficient energy management systems in Mexico City

The Mexican National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy (CONUEE) hosted a workshop on Energy Management Systems (EMS) on August 19. The event targeted energy intensive industries and approx. 200 participants took part in the workshop.

Along with other international experts, the LCTU energy efficiency expert Ulla Vestergaard Rasmussen, Danish Energy Agency, and Peter Maagøe Petersen, Viegand & Maagøe, were invited to present Danish experiences regarding EMS. Participants in the workshop were included in a round table discussion where they were invited to ask questions to a panel of international experts, which consisted of experts from Denmark, Chile, Germany and USA.

Odon de Buen Rodriguez, General Director, CONUEE gave a presentation on implementing EMS in Mexico and Israel Jauregi, EMS expert at CONUEE presented CONUEE’s new EMS Manual which will be updated continuously. This was followed up by three successful case stories. Presentations were given by two companies and a municipality, all being front runners regarding energy efficiency in Mexico.

The workshop proved a great opportunity for the Danish Energy Agency to meet relevant actors in the Mexican industry and further strengthen relations to existing partners in the ambition to implement EMS. Implementation of EMS has a great potential to increase energy efficiency in industries and is one of the main objectives of the Mexican-Danish Energy and Climate programme. The LCTU therefore looks forward to further cooperation with CONUEE and the industry to strategize and promote EMS.
