China: Martin Lidegaard meets the Chinese vice-president for China’s national transmission company, State Grid

19. December 2012

In connection with his two-day visit to China Martin Lidegaard met with the vice-president for Chinas national transmission company, Mr. SHUAI Junqing. At the meeting the two parties exchanged views on China’s energy policy development and the Sino-Danish energy cooperation, including possible future cooperation areas between the Danish Energinet.dk and State Grid.

Because of its almost monopoly and as sole investor in China’s power grid State Grid plays a key role for China’s energy sector and for energy policy development including integration of renewable energy sources in the Chinese energy system. State Grid is currently the world’s largest power supply company and – according to Fortune’s Global top 500 list – among the world’s 10 largest companies. The company with head office in Beijing has more than 1.5 million employed and a turnover of approximately 265 billon USD based on a transmission grid at approximately 655,000 kilometres. State Grid reports directly to the Chinese Government (the State Council) and is assigned the task to ensure a reliable, environmentally friendly  and economically cost effective energy supply supporting the economical and social development in China.
