Energy consumption in Q2 2010 unchanged compared with Q2 2009

Actual energy consumption in Q2 2010 was unchanged compared with Q2 in 2009. Consumption of oil and coal fell by 0.3% and 6.8% respectively, while consumption of natural gas went up by 13.6%.

Net imports of electricity in Q2 2010 were lower than the year before. When adjusted for fuel consumption in connection with foreign trade in electricity, energy consumption fell by 1.2% in Q2 2010.

Actual energy consumption in the first half of 2010 went up by 0.6% relative to the first half of 2009. When adjusted for fuel in connection with net imports of electricity, energy consumption fell by 0.4%.

The change in energy consumption reflects the fact that the weather in both Q2 and the first half year of 2010 was considerably colder than in 2009.

Primary energy production was 0.8% higher in Q2 2010 than in Q2 2009. Production of crude oil fell by 5.3%, while production of natural gas rose by 13.2%. In the monthly statistics, production and consumption of renewable energy are assumed to be unchanged from 2009.

In the first half year of 2010 primary energy production was 1.4% lower than in the first half year of 2009.
