Vietnam: Energy efficiency contribute to large CO2 reductions in the industry

The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) is in the process of introducing new measures to promote energy efficiency in Vietnam's industrial enterprises. These new methods, tools and incentives are based on Danish experience and they are expected to lead to annual CO2 reductions of around 3 million tonnes. This corresponds to 90 % of the CO2 emissions from Danish industrial companies in a year.

In a joint government partnership MOIT, two partner provinces (Dong Nai and Bac Giang) and the Danish Energy Agency has worked closely together to develop procedures, guidelines and tools to support the administration and implementation of existing legislation throughout Vietnam. In addition, methods, tools and incentives have been introduced that provide a better opportunity to map the effect of the legislation in the field of energy efficiency as well as ripening the great energy efficiency potentials within the industry in Vietnam. Hereby, Vietnam will furthermore achieve other major societal benefits, such as less air pollution, improved security of supply and less fuel imports.
